Clandestino just for You

We close the door and the house is yours: for one night, what's clandestine gets said out loud.
Buying out the house includes
  • Exclusive use of the casona for your event
  • Every suite available for your guests
  • Courtyards, terrace and common areas with no other guests
  • A tailored menu and bar, cooked with local produce

ii.

Day-after wedding brunches

The morning after the wedding, with the people who actually stay. A long breakfast in the courtyards, sun, and the whole house for the couple and their inner circle.

Welcome dinners

The night before the wedding, so both families meet without protocol. Cocktails in the courtyard, an easy dinner, and everyone sleeping under the same roof.

Milestone birthdays

Round numbers deserve more than dinner: the entire casona, a menu built for you, and your guests sleeping where the party is.

The house collection

Art on every wall

San Miguel de Allende has been a refuge for artists for seventy years, and Hotel Pila Seca has it written on its walls. Every wall of the casona holds original work — painting, printmaking, photography, textile — by artists who live and work in this city. It isn't hotel decoration: it's a collection built piece by piece, and it changes whenever a guest falls in love with a canvas and takes it home.

You sleep surrounded by original work. Nobody warns you: you discover it over the second coffee.

Walking the hallways and the courtyards is, without meaning to, walking a gallery. Ask at the front desk: we'll tell you who signed each piece, which studio it came from and — if you're curious — how to reach the artist's own studio, which is almost always within walking distance.

About Clandestino Hotel

"What's clandestine isn't advertised — it's discovered. We want arriving here to feel like someone let you in on a secret."

— The Clandestino team

Clandestino began with a simple idea: to inhabit two casonas in the historic center with respect for their history and an appetite for the present. The Recreo house, INAH-listed as a protected property more than a hundred years old, keeps its walls, its proportions and some of its legend. Pila Seca brings the freshness — bright courtyards and a design that doesn't compete with the city, it keeps it company.

Each of the twenty-one suites was thought through on its own: handmade tile, soaking tubs, warm woods, Mexican textiles and the comfort you'd expect from a contemporary boutique hotel. We're a small team, and it shows where it matters — we greet you by name, we know the city by heart, and we build the San Miguel you came for, with you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is Clandestino Hotel?

In the historic center of San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, Mexico: Hotel Recreo at Recreo #31 (one block from El Jardín) and Hotel Pila Seca at Pila Seca #2 (three blocks away). Both addresses sit inside the UNESCO World Heritage zone.

How close is the Parroquia de San Miguel Arcángel?

A few minutes on foot: about 4 from Hotel Recreo and about 7 from Hotel Pila Seca. From Recreo's rooftop terrace you also see it head-on.

What's the difference between Hotel Recreo and Hotel Pila Seca?

Recreo (8 suites) is the more central casona, with a rooftop and panoramic views: ideal for living the city. Pila Seca (13 suites) is quieter and roomier, with courtyards, original art on every wall, a spa and the Florios restaurant inside the house: ideal for resting without going out. They're 5 minutes apart.

What's included in the rate?

Every rate includes taxes, breakfast and parking (valet). No surprises at checkout — the price you see is the price that covers your stay.

Are pets allowed?

Yes, Clandestino Hotel is pet friendly: your dog is welcome in both houses. Let us know when you book so we can prepare their arrival and share the few house rules we ask for.

Is there parking?

Yes. The rate includes valet parking: drive up to the house, hand us the keys and we take it from there. Because we're inside the historic center the lot isn't on the property, but the service is on us.

Can I host a private event at Clandestino?

Yes. With «Clandestino just for You» we hand the whole house over for proposals, day-after wedding brunches, welcome dinners, birthdays and small celebrations. Send us your date and guest count and we'll build the proposal.

Check-in from 3:00 PM and check-out until 12:00 PM. If you arrive earlier or need a later departure, write to us: we'll store your luggage and, subject to availability, arrange a late check-out.

When is the best time to visit San Miguel de Allende?

The city is worth it year-round: spring for the jacarandas, September for the independence festivities and La Alborada, winter for its clear blue skies. Our blog has a full guide to weather and festivals season by season.
